RyKennon

England [British]

Biography

RyKennon (real name Ryan Kenny), is a 21 year old dance music producer and hails from Harrogate, North Yorkshire in England. Taking his influences from almost every music possible, he first got hooked onto electronic dance music aged just 6 years old when he first heard UK Garage. The hypnotic ‘hyperfunk’ of the swung 2 step garage sound really began to have an effect on shaping his attention to detail in  production.

In 2007 Ryan started to sing in local progressive metal band Discarded Days working with some high grade musicians they recorded their first album, ‘Journey’ in 2008. a second album came in 2009 with a new band name Thumbsaw and in July of that year, ‘The Thumbsaw EP’ was released. Encouraged by some of the band to take up Music Technology as they were entering their A Levels, Ryan re-discovered electronic music once more.

In July 2010, aged 18 years old, RyKennon achieved his first release on local Leeds label Cutting Shapes Recordings with the track, ‘Jackin’ the Box’. This track which was essentially an Acid House tune harked back to the Old Skool rave days and was the beginning of a string of releases that year. Soon after this, Hardcore Lives Records (one of the leading labels in the up and coming hardcore breaks/ nu- rave scene) signed up ‘Seventh Heaven’ for CD release on Hardcore Lives Vol. 8.

RyKennon was fast becoming a regular on nu-rave radio too getting played almost every week on the Hardcore Lives shows. On the back of this he got asked to do some official remixes, including one which would be voted 3rd best track of the year at the 2012 Nu-rave Awards!

Highlights throughout 2011 included getting played on Kool FM (London) on Hardcore legend Billy ‘Daniel’ Bunter’s show, and being played at various Nu-rave events up and down the country. Various releases followed also throughout 2011 and recognition for the hard work was rewarded when he was nominated for 4 Nu-Rave awards the following year.

RyKennon was nominated for best track, best label (co-running Cutting Shapes Recordings), best breakthrough producer and best album (appearing on Hardcore Lives Vol. 8). although not winning any awards coming 3rd place in track of the year got him more work and respect from some of the bigger names in the scene, with the likes of vinyl Junkie and winner of best label Top Drawer digital asking him to do official remixes.

October 2012 also saw  RyKennon’s first Vinyl release, getting a tune on the Original Old Skoolers EP Vol. 2. This gave him releases on every single format (mp3, CD, and vinyl).

Finally 2013 sees him showing his versatility once more releasing 2 step garage remixes for the likes of Gav Ley and Klumzy Tung under the name of Reload Captain and aslo working on some up front house music alongside the talented DJ CoiTy, watch this space!!

2014 sees CoiTy & RyKennon developing their House sound with an old skool rave influence. Tracks like ‘Can’t Explain’ and ‘I Wanna’ seeing huge support on internet radio and parties alike. With the latter being signed to new label Bass Elements (due for a release early 2015).
